Tungsten Copper Military

Tungsten copper military material is fabricated from the two mutual indissolvable metal of tungsten and copper, which combines the properties of good hardness, high melting point and low coefficient of thermal expansion of tungsten with copper’s of high conductivity and high thermal conductivity, it is a kind of well performance composite. Copper tungsten military material not only has good thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion coefficient, but also can design its thermal conductivity and coefficient of expansion by changing its tungsten copper content.
Tungsten copper military alloy is easy to be machined. And with this series of fine characteristic, so copper tungsten military has been widely used in mechanical, electrical, instruments and other civil industrial, and also is widely in making important as well as complex components for aviation, spaceflight, weapons in the military industrial.
The theory of copper tungsten military materials applied as high temperature material in military use is that when the air temperature is close to event exceed the temperature melting point of tungsten (over3,000 ℃), the content of copper in tungsten copper materials evaporate and then absorb a great deal of heat , which greatly reduce temperature of tungsten copper military made parts. The table below shows the properties of high temperature tungsten copper.

Tungsten Copper Military Nozzle

Tungsten copper military nozzle is an indispensable piece of equipment in many devices employing fluid as a working medium. The reaction force that results from the fluid acceleration may be employed to propel a jet aircraft or a rocket. Most military jet aircraft employ the simple convergent conical nozzle, with adjustable conical angle, as their propulsive device.
And tungsten copper military nozzle is also used in solid rocket motor. Solid rocket motor has four components mainly the shell, solid propellants, nozzle components and ignition devices. The formula of solid propellant and molding process, nozzle’s design and materials and manufacturing process, shell materials and manufacturing process are the most important link, which directly affects solid engine performance. Tungsten copper alloy with high melting temperature and ablation resistance will be the best materials for rocket motors.

Tungsten copper military gas vane

Tungsten copper military gas vane is a device for controlling aircraft, rockets, spacecraft, and the like during those parts of a flight where gas vanes are not effective.Tungsten copper military gas vanes vary in design from plates that change the thrust direction of a gas flow to complicated guide vanes. In aircraft, gas vanes are used during take off and landing conditions .While in rockets and spacecraft they are used during the initial portions of a flight and for control in non atmospheric conditions.
The theory is that when the solid rocket motor outbursts the high temperature, high speed gas flow ,tungsten copper military gas vane can make the copper molten in the structure of tungsten skeleton infiltrate , evaporate ,then effusion.
When the tungsten copper changing in the phase state, tungsten copper need to intake large mount of heat for the sake of cooling, and the good thermal conductivity of cooper makes the tungsten copper military gas vane with the function of cooling and keep the ablativity at low extent to satisfy the requirements of controlling system.

Tungsten Copper Heat Seat Properties

Tungsten copper heat seat is used extensively in thermal mounting plates, chip carriers, flanges, and frames for high-powered electronic devices. As a copper tungsten composite, it utilizes the thermal advantages of copper and the very low expansion characteristics of tungsten.
The combination of these two materials results in thermal expansion characteristics similar to those of silicone carbide, aluminum oxide, and beryllium oxide, used as chips and substrates. Because of CuW's thermal conductivity and expansion characteristics, it works well in densely packed circuits.
Features of CuW include:
Minimizes thermal stress.
Can be mounted to directly.
Can be plated with silver, gold, nickel, and copper.
Readily brazable without distortion or loss of physical properties.
Non-magnetic.
Maintains high physical properties over a wide range of temperatures.
Remains stable during temperature cycling.
High electrical conductivity, varying with the grade.
Superior thermal conductivity.
Various grades are available to match the characteristics and requirements of the material attached to it.
Can be readily machined into complicated shapes.
Parts can often be made to net or near net shape, because they are manufactured by powder metallurgy.

Applications for Copper Tungsten Bar

Because of the high electrical conductivity and low consumption, Copper tungsten bars are widely used to make Grid siderod, Lead, Support, and Electrode for the Gas discharge lamp.
1. Resistance welding electrode
It integrates such features of tungsten and copper as high temperature resistance, electrical arc ablation resistance, high proportion, good electrical and heat conductivity, being easy to cut and transpiration cooling. It also owns such advantages of tungsten as high hardness, melting point and adherence resistance. It is often used for projection welding and butt-welding electrode with wear and high temperature resistance.
2. Electric spark electrode
It is used for the electrode of mould made from tungsten steel and high-temperature and ultra hard alloy. The common electrode has high consumption and low rate. The high electrical ablation rate, low consumption ratio, precise electrode size and quality processing performance of Copper tungsten can ensure that the precision of the work piece is greatly enhanced.
3. High-voltage discharge tube electrode
When the high-voltage vacuum discharge tube is working, the temperature of contact material will rise to thousands degree centigrade within several tenths seconds. High ablation resistance, high toughness, good electrical and heat conductivity of Copper tungsten provide necessary conditions to stable operation of the discharge tube.
4. Electrical seal material
It owns not only the low expansion of tungsten and high heat conductivity of copper. Its expansion index and heat conductivity can also be changed through changing the content of the materials, which provides convenience to the using of the material. We can supply various specifications and the Copper tungsten alloys with different tungsten proportions.

Tungsten Copper Electrodes

We Supply Tungsten Copper by Press, Sinter & Infiltration method with the tungsten content ranging from 50% to 90% by weight. The balance is copper.
1. Electrical Contact materials
Electrical contacts are subjected to extreme mechanical and thermal stresses during operation. For fractions of a second, temperatures rise to several thousand degrees as a result of the arcing. Only Tungsten Copper materials will stand these high temperature & aberration.
Tungsten Copper material has good resistance to arc erosion, mechanical wear, contact welding and good conductivity. They are usually selected for oil, gas, air or vacuum, devices. The contact surfaces will oxidize when switched in air. These press-sinter-infiltrate materials should only be considered for arcing surfaces in air when used as arcing tips, arc plates and arc runners. When switching with moderate contact arcing, the Tungsten Copper with a high copper content may give the lowest erosion. As arcing severity increases, the Tungsten Copper with the higher refractory content withstand arc erosion better. Tungsten Coppers are also used as arcing edges of selector switchblades in transformer tap changers.
2. Electrodes for Spark Erosion
Tungsten Copper electrodes are best suitable material for electrical discharge machining  applications. It has excellent wear resistance, good metal removal rate and ability to retain good detail. It is used where speed and wear resistance are most important.
3. Resistance Welding
Tungsten Coppers are used for some spot welding application of low conductivity materials, and as die inserts for flash and butt resistance welding applications.
4. Heat Sinks
Modern computer processors like the 586 series and higher, generate a heat output per square centimeter similar to that of a household cooker surface. Tungsten-copper heat sinks and the processor fan remove the heat.
